Here at Standown Park Veterans come from all over Australia for Veterans Day, arriving from as early as the previous week end.
On the 17th August we begin the activities in the afternoon with the Mini markets which usually turns out to be bigger than Ben Hur with The Gypsy Coffee and Cooloola Berries vans providing their favourites and all the stall holders selling their wares. Narelle from Aloma Massage will no doubt be kept busy as this is always popular, as there are a lot who have a few wrinkles to be ironed out.
To top off the evening we have the free sausage sizzle while being entertainment.
Long Tan Day begins with everyone fronting up for the Veterans mini Olympic games. They always have had a fun time or a lot of cheating goes on as there is a lot of laughter ringing out over the grounds.
After a shared lunch the Veterans march to the Memorial for a very moving Service conducted by Ret. RSM Noel Huish OAM and a visiting Pastor.
Kia Ora State School students and the many visitors from Gympie, Hervey Bay and Tin Can Bay come for the day, including our local Gympie Councillors.
The day is completed with a good old camp fire meal and entertainment.
That is not the end, as we organise further activities for all to enjoy to fill in your day/s, but if that’s not enough to exhaust everyone, the usual ladies night will be held (20th August) at a venue to be decided. The best part of that night is the men take us and then come and collect us. Thanks guys.
So if you missed out last year, get in early for this year as many of the powered site are booked already. Everyone is welcome
