The History
We bought Standown Park in 2022 moving up from the Sunshine Coast, since then we have spent our time getting to know all the regulars and started to put improvements into place.
Standown Park was originally a Ginger, Pumpkin & Watermelon farm but was purchased by Rod & Pam Elkington as a base for them both to retire and travel….
Then their friends came, and stayed, and stayed, and stayed…..
The ‘WHY DON’T YOU’ Tribe came along…“WHY DON’T YOU build some showers and toilets” they said. “It will be fun” they said….
Then the ‘YOU SHOULDA” tribe came along. “YOU SHOULDA put power and water in” they said.
“It will be fun” they said…..
SO…..
Standown Park as a Caravan Park came alive and was originally set up as a Veterans Retreat for ‘their mates’ and later opened to the public to enjoy.
“Over the years it has grown to become a ‘home away from home’ for many Veterans of all ages and all conflicts plus their families. We are finding younger veterans from more recent wars have found peace and mateship here in the safe and relaxing atmosphere of Standown Park” said Rod.
“We love living here and know you’ll enjoy your stay”, said Pam.
After 15 years of hearing the adventures of our visitors was time for us to “see for ourselves
