The picturesque Mary Valley and neighbouring areas are a beautiful drive. The rolling hills and national parks, historical trails and hidden treasures along the way make it a perfect day trip from Standown Park. The National Parks offer a diverse range of activities such as hiking, canoeing, four-wheel driving and horse riding. The quaint little towns of Imbil, Kandanga and Amamoor make up the Mary Valley.
The 150 year old historical Kandanga Pub, which burnt to the ground in December 2015, was rebuilt and opened for business in July 2017. This is a great watering hole and a place to stop and have a drink and say G’Day to Dough and Carol.
The Gympie Music Muster is held in Amamoor State Forest and attracts over 50,000 Music lovers over 4 days in the last week of August every year!
Malany, Kenilworth and Montville are also on the Mary Valley road trip and are situated in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. They offer boutique style shopping and dining experiences and the views are spectacular.
And if a great Lunch at Country Pubs is your thing then Theebine Pub, Gunalda Hotel, Kin Kin Pub and the Boreen Point Pub are a must visit on your stay at Standown…. Everything is within an hour’s drive from the park and make a great outing for the day.
Pomona has the most amazing Historical Theatre that often shows Silent Movies and is also home of King of the Mountain which is a race on foot to the top of Pomona Mountain, run each July.
